June Long-Schuman
June Long-Schuman is an award-winning fine artist, teacher and print-maker who has shown her work locally on Long Island and in Newport, RI. After graduating with a BFA in Fine Art from Pratt Institute in 1977 June went on to Dowling College in 1985 to receive a teaching Certification in Art. June continued studying art at C. W. Post in the graduate program and later received a Masters in Liberal Studies from Stony Brook University. She studied printmaking with Dan Welden in 1985 and has had numerous award-winning shows featuring her monoprints.
Since 1998 June has focused on plein air painting in oils. Her goal is to capture the essence of the moment; “to stop, to look, to make the viewer wonder, has always been a goal of art, and one of mine. The change and patterns in nature reflect the change in ourselves and confirm our spiritual existence.” The historical importance of art as an expression of the times and as a vision of the future is also relevant to June’s work. In 2001 June completed “Soaring Spirits at Ground Zero” a mural in honor of the victims of September 11th.
June currently is a Lower School teacher at the Long Island School for the Gifted and teaches workshops during the summer at the Art League of Long Island.
