Biography
Bob Montusi Artist - Instructor My first exposure to oil painting began with watching my mother as an artist. She always valued my opinion of her work - and we discussed all aspects of her field of art. By the time I was in my early teens, I had gained the confidence to try my hand at drawing and later with painting. My very first canvas was an impression of Utrillo’s famous street scene. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and have that painting to this day - some 60-odd years later. Without any formal training, I continued to paint over the years, on and off, as my lifestyle allowed. I served with the U.S. Army in the Korean War, attended college for my Masters in Engineering, worked at Grumman Aerospace for 38 years, and raised a family of four children with my wife Diana here on Long Island. A few years before retirement, I decided to become a Bob Ross instructor in order to learn the wet-on-wet technique as well as effective methods of teaching art. I have been conducting classes since 1987. My art has never been in a gallery but I have sold dozens of paintings over the years, mostly by word of mouth, and also through commissioning. Art work, and using oil paint, have always been a source of great pleasure for me, and I am privileged to see the looks of joy on my students’ faces as they discover the artist in them!
