Biography
Dorothy Courts love of nature, flowers, landscapes and animals is what inspires her to paint some of life’s most beautiful things. Her painting career began while she was a teacher in her Port Jefferson ceramic shop. With further influence from many friends within her garden club she began to paint watercolors. Under the direction of Adelaide Silkworth, her abilities as an accomplished watercolorist truly blossomed and as a member of the Night Heron Artists group, her work is often seen in local art exhibits throughout Long Island. Dorothy’s paintings have been featured on the cover of the Suwassett Garden Club program booklet and the Port Jefferson garden clubs street recognition signs. Her artwork has also been donated and raffled for various fund raising events. As a member of the Brookhaven Arts Council, the Night Heron Artists, and Long Island Art Group.com, Dorothy’s hope is that each viewer captures some part of the enjoyment she gets while creating her paintings.
